2.5gbe
2.5gbe
seeking a better 5G Wi-Fi at home with heavy video streaming over your LAN to the NAS. Your NAS uses a 2.5GbE card while the router is only GBE. There are options that combine Wi-Fi 6 and 2.5GbE LAN ports under $300, or you could use an unmanaged switch to boost speeds without breaking the bank.
Does the device you're using support 2.5+? Wifi alone won't reach it... To truly benefit from speeds over gigabit, you'll need direct physical connections between all involved devices. Yes, if both have 2.5, placing a switch in the network can help—data travels through the switch without needing the router for internal routing. Switches manage traffic using MAC addresses, so you don't have to rely on the router for that part. However, if there are any switches between the 2.5GB switch and either the PC or NAS, your performance will drop to the weakest link in the chain. This should make more sense now.
2.5Gb unmanaged switch should work well for transferring data via Ethernet. I suggest using a TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 to link your computers to your NAS.
Thanks team, I'm excited about the upcoming upgrade of this project.
