I'm thinking about upgrading my monitor and wondering if a 240Hz model is better than a 144Hz one.

It depends on the frame rate you're using and the game. It might not be helpful for games like City Skylines, but could work well in competitive titles such as Fortnite, CS:GO, Valorant, and other shooters when competitive settings are active. It's less effective for more realistic shooters where strategy matters more than quick reflexes.

Yes, I enjoy playing competitive shooters, but I understand your point; overall it's a solid investment.

Even in competitive scenarios, unless you're at an extremely advanced stage, increasing the frequency from 120Hz to 240Hz likely won't significantly impact performance.

I was satisfied with the increase from 144Hz to 240Hz, though I kept my expectations in check—it wasn’t as significant a jump as going from 60Hz to 144Hz. I noticed some performance gains.
Determining the key factor is challenging. I think the clarity improves during quick movements, which aids aiming. From reviews, it seems this is due to the higher Hz monitor’s faster pixel response, reducing ghosting or inverse ghosting. Check monitor reviews and see if they mention the UFO test.
I’ve only used a single 240Hz monitor, which is top-end. After reviewing many opinions, it seemed the upgrade would be worthwhile only with a premium monitor, though I’m unsure how midrange 240Hz models compare.
Consider checking reviews from Monitors Unboxed and Optimum Tech about high refresh rate displays.
If you’re hoping for a major leap, you’ll likely be let down. However, if you’re mainly focused on smoother gameplay and enjoy FPS titles, it could be beneficial. It’s not something every FPS player needs to invest in, as you can still have a great experience at 144Hz.

I purchased what appears to be a quality monitor. Please share your thoughts on it.
