I think 32GB is now a solid amount. My machine runs on 8GB with Windows adjusting and using the swap space. I own a few with 16GB and it barely works. Of course, Windows loads a lot of data into swap, and games still run fine. If you spot cheaper RAM with slower speeds, aim for 32GB. Crucial offers DIMMs without heat spreaders, which can raise the price.
