Hey there, I've been considering the 2022 Zephyrus g14. The 16GB model seems like the best fit for my budget right now, and it does support upgrading to 24GB DDR5 RAM. I was curious about adding a 32GB stick in the free slot, though it's a bit puzzling that the G15 claims 40GB expansion while the G14 doesn't. Can I still install a 32GB stick without major performance drops? Also, will it actually recognize the memory? If not, what's going on behind the scenes?
24GB RAM is more than enough, I already have 64GB which is excessive for my needs. I’m using a PC, so it should be fine to get the G14. It might only recognize the maximum supported memory or it won’t function at all. My instinct is two things: if it works, you won’t notice the extra memory, just the limits set by the motherboard or chipset. If it fails, you’ll probably hear a beep about memory issues and won’t see any video output. It really depends on the motherboard’s handling of memory errors.
