2022 Zephyrus G14 graphics card problems and battery concerns have been reported.
My baby G14 has been acting up lately with poor battery performance. Just yesterday it could last over eleven hours when the dGPU was off and settings were set to medium brightness and steady refresh rate. But suddenly after a couple of hours of light use—just a few tabs in Chrome and OneNote—the battery dropped to 20%. Even at low CPU usage, it’s losing power quickly. I checked my ASUS Armoury Crate and everything matched what I left before. Task Manager showed only the iGPU active, which makes sense since the dGPU is turned off. There were alerts about a graphics driver crash or failure, and it even suggested sending diagnostics to AMD. My guess is the dGPU is still drawing power even though it’s supposed to be off, but I can’t figure it out myself. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers and the Adrenalin tool, but nothing helped. It keeps losing a bit of battery every minute or so, even when the dGPU is disabled. Someone, please help me out. Thanks ahead of time.
P.S. Before you think I’m just a casual gamer, I built my own 9700k and 2070 systems a few years back, but I had to leave them behind when I went to college. Taking a desktop on a plane isn’t realistic. For reference: AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS with integrated graphics, Radeon RX 6700S, 16 GB DDR5 at 4800 MHz, 1 TB SSD.
Edit: Other users on Reddit are reporting the same problem and it seems to be linked to a BIOS issue. You can check out this thread for more details.
Do you use tools such as MSI Afterburner in the background? I’ve experienced a similar problem with my 2020 ROG Strix G17 (10750H+GTX 1660Ti) where Afterburner drains battery quickly—only about 2 hours when running, but needing around 6 hours without it.
