He has successfully installed a BIOS mod and customized hardware on an i7 9700 for his ROG z170, and it's been stable for months. I'm curious if I can achieve the same with an old 2016 iMac using a newer CPU. He warns that this might cause problems with lower-end z170 boards. I recall iMacs typically use H270 or H370 boards, but I’m not certain since I haven’t found confirmation online. Any advice on whether older iMacs can support 9th or 10th generation CPUs?

You're asking if the CPU is indeed soldered onto the logic board.

Both the 21.5 inch and 27 inch Intel processors in the MacBook Air can be upgraded, though the steps aren’t very straightforward. I think there’s a helpful upgrade tutorial available.
