They might choose Vulcan because it’s available, it supports older Windows versions like Win 10, and most other tools rely on it.

I understand your point, but it’s accurate that many Kepler and modern AMD graphics cards only partially support DirectX 12. I’m sure they’ll remain viable options for gamers in 2016.

Vulkan will offer broader compatibility even in this scenario, and any GPU supporting OpenGL ES 3.1 will work as well.
