1) Yes, you can use three identical sticks to enable dual channel operation.
2) It's feasible to direct an application to run from a particular stick, such as making Firefox launch from memory in Slot 2.

It's a setup where two sticks work together. The exact question isn't clear, but you can use dual channel on two sticks and single channel on the third.

1.) It's true, you might encounter an odd count of ranks, and certain motherboards could be incompatible.

I owned two 8GB drives. One experienced minor problems and would crash during gaming and while using a big After Effects project. I replaced it with another and everything works smoothly now. I combined all three drives and started AE and the two games from the two working drives. Operating system is Windows 10.

If your stick is faulty, avoid using it. Many RAM kits come with lifetime warranties. Reach out to the manufacturer for assistance. Failing to meet your RAM assignment goals isn't possible.

It's a legacy DDR3 model, and shipping expenses exceed its resale worth. This is my backup setup, so I'm focusing on gaining some knowledge.
