Get a sufficient amount, it will drop significantly once DDR5 becomes common. (Based on my prediction). If you have four slots, start with two 8GB units and upgrade later by adding all eight together. After all, my crystal ball remains limited to 8 bits.
I don't have certainty about the next five years, but for gaming, browsing the web, or everyday office work, 16GB should be sufficient for now. If DDR5 is arriving soon, prices for DDR4 are likely to fall. If you can afford it and intend to keep your PC long-term, opting for 32GB would be a solid choice.
Truthfully, I enjoy various games and my current RAM usage is quite good. I don’t shut down programs during play, and I often switch between games while raiding in WOW, which helps with performance.
Eh, 8gb is being saturated by games now, and 16gb can be filled on heaver games (think ms flight sim 2020). next 5, it might be saturated by most. Im not 100% sure on this, but if you can do 32 gb, and you dont want to upgrade in the next 2 years to desktop ddr5, I would go for 32gb of ddr4.
