I purchased this 14700K in November 2023 and it has been working well so far. After installing the CPU, I kept updating my BIOS without problems. A month ago I replaced the motherboard with an Asrock z790 Livemixer, which also functioned properly. For about two weeks, everything was smooth until my games started lagging and stuttering. The desktop and scrolling felt sluggish, resembling a 2-core, 2-thread CPU. I also experienced high temperatures, especially after updating to the latest microcode. Then I upgraded to the 0x125 microcode, which improved performance significantly—gaming felt smooth and natural. However, now I’m encountering crashes and hangs in GTA Online Enhanced Edition, my main game. This is making the game unplayable and very frustrating. I’m torn: should I accept a less stable but functional setup or risk a stable one that breaks my favorite game?

I own a 4080 Super and often play CPU-heavy games at 1440p resolution. The CPU needs to perform optimally. On the newest BIOS, I tried capping the voltage at a fixed 1.4 to reduce overheating, which helped temporarily but didn’t solve the issue. On the 0x125 I disabled XMP profiles and still faced problems.

I bought this board from Computer Orbit and they don’t offer refunds after 37 days. I’m considering returning the CPU instead, selling it for a stable 12th-gen CPU. But I’m unsure if a 12th-gen model would have similar issues, and whether the board is responsible here.

The issue isn't with the board itself. The 12th remains unaffected by the 13/14gen weakness. I’d think about sending a return merchandise authorization for the CPU if possible. Updated June 12, 2025 by leclod

As you mentioned, I can easily request a return or exchange through the Intel website. They’re supposed to be reliable, so I can sell it as a new CPU with a slight performance drop, like a 12700K, but I’d prefer a consistent one instead.

Consider an alternative upgrade path where Ryzen outperforms the 12700k gamibg perf, making it worthwhile at the cost of trading in a 14700k used unit.

Purchased the 12700K, wishing it won’t cause any problems.

I started using a new BIOS in early 2024 but it still crashes. I discovered something unusual. RDR2, which uses Vulkan, works perfectly without any issues. GTA 5 runs smoothly at around 26 frames per second for an hour with no problems. The game stalls after just five minutes when set to 65fps. I also tried Cyberpunk, which crashed after five minutes. I checked the drivers for Studio and Gamer GPUs, but the problem isn’t related to the GPU—it’s likely a system or driver issue. My PNY 4080 Super is running at about 55% load during gaming and handles RDR2 well, while it struggles with GTA 5 when pushed to its limits.

I own a 14700k in my TV computer, but I haven’t noticed any rapid decline. It was checked over two weeks and then left off for several months.

After watching the video, adjusting the clocks to 5ghz and turning off E cores didn't help much. Setting a strict voltage limit of 1.4v resolved the issue, preventing crashes in games. I now think running the default settings would work better, but I'm not sure. I've already purchased the 12700K, so I'll keep it and replace the 14700K just to be safe.
