144hz vs 165hz ?
144hz vs 165hz ?
Can a monitor specialist advise on the advantages and disadvantages of pushing a monitor to 165hz instead of its intended 144hz? Beyond the higher refresh rate, what other effects might occur? If the device functions flawlessly at 165hz, why isn't that the standard setting?
Are you referring to the Asus PG279Q? Often when people mention overclocking to 165hz, they mean it might not reliably hit that refresh rate without problems. Some monitors from the same brand and model can struggle with colors or contrast at that speed, and in some cases may not even reach 165hz. It could also generate extra heat, which I hope any monitor promoting 165hz is equipped to handle. That said, I haven’t come across any reports of difficulties getting the PG279Q to run smoothly at 165hz, although many reviews I’ve seen wonder if it really makes a difference compared to 144hz.

No. In fact, this is the monitor I’m considering:

It’s only six months old but has great specifications. I plan to use it with a 1080.
