Hello.
I saw someone arguing that 144hz offers a small edge over 60hz even though the game is capped at 60hz. Is this person going too far with their experiments? I think the difference between 60hz and 144hz shouldn't matter since the game is fixed at 60hz. What are your thoughts?

Hertz is the SI unit for frequency, representing one cycle each second.
A game doesn’t necessarily stick to a fixed Hertz value; some games limit their frames per second based on engine capabilities rather than the intended rate.
If your monitor supports 144Hz and the game runs at 144FPS, you can clearly observe those 144 frames per second.
With a 60FPS game on a 144Hz display, you’ll notice significant issues like heavy tearing since the monitor can’t match the higher refresh rate.
However, using a 60Hz monitor with a 144Hz screen in a 60FPS game gives a smoother experience compared to a 60Hz monitor, mainly due to panel quality, response time, and frame pacing differences.

I meant fps... Damn. The game locks at 60fps because it's built for that speed. It won't tear even with a 144hz screen running a 60fps title. No tearing at all.

When playing at 60hz versus 144hz, I notice a clear lag in the input response.

So 144hz is better, it provides a quicker response.

Yeah? But you're quicker, and your screen speed isn't capped at 59.94Hz—actually, its chip supports 144Hz, which makes your monitor faster than a standard 60Hz one.

I'm not sure, but many professional players use CRT monitors and might notice changes from 60hz to 144hz. This could be just a placebo, though. I personally experienced a delay when switching between those frequencies.

Relates to frame timing. It does matter.

The slight edge comes around 30 milliseconds, which is half a sixteenth of a second. This advantage is measured in terms of skill and reaction speed rather than hardware specs. Conclusion: It requires more than 30 milliseconds to press a button. No benefit exists from using a 144 Hz monitor compared to a 60 Hz one in Brawlhalla. The difference lies in the player's ability and timing.

Yeah, I was thinking something similar. Are you certain about your statement?
