14+1+1 vs 7+1+1 Power Phase comparison
14+1+1 vs 7+1+1 Power Phase comparison
I'm evaluating these two ASRock motherboards—the B760M PG Riptide and the B760M Pro RS. The Riptide has a 14+1+1 power phase, while the Pro RS offers 7+1+1. Both are B760 models, so overclocking isn't an option here. I'm curious about why the higher power phase might matter for future upgrades. I plan to use an i5 13400 or 13600 and possibly a 14th gen i7 later.
Power usage varies depending on workload, which is why it becomes an issue in certain areas. These latest processors can handle significant current, so a powerful VRM is essential for i7/i9 models even when running at default settings. For future upgrades, choosing a board with strong VRMs from the start is recommended.
The Riptide offers solid overclocking potential thanks to its external clock generator. It stands out among few boards that support this feature, including a model capable of boosting non-K 12th gen CPUs such as the 12400. The Riptide delivers superior performance compared to others. Another key factor is its power delivery; if the VRM isn't robust enough, it restricts CPU speed and clock stability because it can't provide sufficient power for higher frequencies without overheating.
Approximately 150 CAD on Newegg is a good deal! So 14 plus 1 plus 1 counts as solid? Since the prices are almost identical, I think I’m settled. Thanks everyone!
