no one knows how to fit 140mm fans in a cooler that only fits 120mm using clips. Unless it’s not necessary and won’t improve cooling, you might want to stick with your current setup. Your Ryzen 7 5700X running idle at 50-60°C suggests the existing cooling is sufficient.

Replace the thermal paste. The CPU cooler works well for this chip, and it shouldn’t be running at such high speeds.

Alright, I understand. I have the identical cooler on a 7600X with PBO enabled, and I run it around the mid-40s RPM.

besides what others mentioned, I believe a 140 fan won’t boost cooling significantly unless the fins extend further than they already do. The additional 20mm might just push air over surfaces that aren’t really there.

This adjustment increases cooling inefficiency by allowing excessive airflow across the sides. It suggests possible mounting issues or improper thermal paste use. Did you take off the sticker from the cold plate? Also, what kind of airflow does it have? If there’s no airflow, high idle might actually be expected.

Some coolers are built for these 140 fans with 120 mounting holes, but for the model you're using, go with standard 120 as Jaslion recommended. However, I can suggest an alternative—I'm currently using this setup after your original fan failed the Noctua NF-A15 HS-PWM.
