You're thinking about upgrading from your i5 7600k and considering the 12700 as an option. It's understandable to feel uncertain, especially since most discussions focus on the 12700k. The Z series motherboard (Gigabyte z690 UD DDR4) should work fine with the CPU, but keep in mind that reviews often highlight the 12700k. You might notice a difference in performance when running at the base speed of 2.1GHz compared to higher speeds, especially during regular tasks. For more details on non-K SKUs, it would be helpful.

No. For desktop/web browsing, no chance. For games, maybe. If it's ~$30 more to go for the -K SKU, I would. You'd have to buy a cooler and everything, but it's a bit faster and for ~$30 I'd think it would be worth it. Any more than that, just stick with the 12700. Also, just a heads up, you should probably avoid Gigabyte motherboards for this generation. They messed something up with the memory topology so getting faster memory speeds to work is a headache at best or impossible at worst. Stick to something MSI/ASUS/ASRock instead depending on who's is the best value. EDIT: Should have specified Gigabyte DDR4 boards specifically. Their DDR5 boards are on par with everyone else, their DDR4 boards are the ones that have issues. Edited January 22, 2022 by RONOTHAN##
