I handle 500W effortlessly. I believe there'll be a discount around £100, so I might go with 10980XE (better option). Surely I can't afford the Threadripper—it's just beyond my budget. I could choose either the 3950X or 10980XE; the charts suggest 10980XE is still strong. It drops when overclocked, which is expected. I might consider selling the X299 Dark, but I'm not sure. It seems like a solid choice right now. Everything is ready for it. I bought the board about two months ago.

In the absence of LN2, only water remains, yet we have three 480mm rads and one 240mm (all thickest from EK) with two pumps. I think the system peaks around 4.4Ghz. Cooling at 500W will be simpler on the 10980XE since the cores are more spread out than in cases like 9900K.

It might be an issue at first, but winter is here. Running in short bursts should keep things manageable.

lol dude remember when I responded to your previous post about the 3950X being just a beast or just waiting for the Threadripper refresh which now kills every chip out there? Unless you have some need for an Intel based chip, there is zero reason to stay with Intel. I sold my X399 board and 2950X and just got my 3950X and man besides the PCIe lanes the 3950X has the same core count but it much faster and requires less power and is much easier to cool. I am cooling a 16 core CPU with a 240mm AIO, that is insane. The X299 is a dead platform honestly and I am not sure Intel is competitive maybe until 2021-2022, maybe. So for me if you love to tinker sure the 10980XE will fulfill your overclocking fancy but at the end of the day the 3950X is simply a cheaper and in a lot of cases faster chip. If you really want to go all out just go Threadripper
