Soo... Me again! 10980XE is nowhere to be seen available. Prices keep rising everywhere to over £1100. I already have X299 Dark Motherboard but this is getting out of hand. New vulnerabilities etc. X570 Aorus Master is £323 and 3950X is £750 exactly (AS PROMISED!). Together it will be less than 10980XE CPU. Should I just go for 3950X? Will Ryzen 4000 be on X570? Trying to decide.

I’d choose AMD because it’s more affordable and performs better overall. The CPU buyer’s guide for Linus would recommend the 3950x, so I’d heed that suggestion.

You're wondering why you'd switch from the 3950x to the 4000 series, and you're also curious about the purpose behind it. It's a good question—upgrading often comes down to performance needs. What scenario would make that change worthwhile?

They're really overpriced. Motherboards cost a lot of money, especially with high-end options. I'm not settling for 24 cores; I prefer 32 or more. I'd rather stick to the mid-range segment. Getting into HEDT isn't that simple either—Intel doesn't make it easy.

Do you care about AVX 512? Probably not. The 3950X still outperforms it even without two cores.

I purchased a solid cooling system that lets me comfortably overclock the 10980XE to around 4.9Ghz with stable temperatures all day. Still, the 3950X consumes more power, which means I could achieve even cooler temps and potentially better performance boosts.

I believe even with the 10980XE holding its MSRP, the 3950X remains a superior choice overall—much more powerful and thus offering better value. It does miss two cores, but that shouldn't deter you.
