1080p with 1070ti
Hi there!
I'm preparing to assemble my first PC and parts are still on the way. I chose a big build to ensure it stays up-to-date with future upgrades. My concern is whether overclocking the CPU or RAM would be necessary if I'm playing on a 1080p monitor with an 1070ti graphics card. I understand it's not perfect since the GPU can handle more (like 2k), but my brother already has a suitable monitor. I can't afford to buy a 2k at this time. I'm aware there will be limitations because the GPU won't perform well on a 2k display. So, should I go for a minimal overclock to get the best performance on 1080p right now? Thanks!
I have a 1080 p monitor with identical CPU and GPU. You can try adaptive resolution, which doesn't actually go to 2k but makes the image appear sharper and allows the GPU to render at 2k, avoiding a bottleneck.
I wouldn't go overclocking a CPU on that board with a Ryzen 1600 or above; the B350 are excellent budget overclockers for Ryzen 3 and the lower-end Ryzen 5, but once you try overclocking the larger CPUs, they sometimes can't provide enough power or the VRMs aren't strong enough on the B350s.
I wouldn't attempt a CPU overclock on that board with a Ryzen 1600 or above; the b350 is excellent for budget overclockers targeting Ryzen 3 and the lower-end Ryzen 5, but once you push bigger CPUs, they sometimes struggle to provide enough power or their VRMs aren't sufficient on the b350s. I'm worried the b350 might harm the 1070ti. Websites suggest the 1070 is fine, but I don’t see any guidance for the 1070ti. What are your thoughts?
