I had a temporary hold until the 10900k became available and picked up a 10700k this afternoon. As soon as I returned home, it easily fit into the delid tool. To my astonishment, it appears to use the same die as the 10900k, whereas I expected a 9900k size. Something important to remember is that the indium solder is significantly softer than the 9900k version. I performed at least three pushes on the IHS in opposite directions before it detached from the die—likely just one push would have released it. If you intend to delide your 10th generation part, be aware it will behave differently and may resist. The 10900k die seems unusual compared to typical die size expectations.

That suggests a modified BIOS might indeed enable those cores.

All of AMD's Zen/+ models appear the same. 1200 or 2700x look identical. Great job on the de-lid work. I like it.

Normal production uses fewer unique dies, which lowers costs. I’m curious if the quad cores are built on the same die as the 6-core version. They might destroy cores they shouldn’t, using a laser for extended periods.

Der8auer experienced a 5-10 degree drop in temperatures on his 10900k. Sufficient for me, honestly. Also, yes—I’ll likely stick with direct die cooling, just like I did for my 9900k after selling it.
