I use the same processor and haven’t focused much on the clock during gameplay, though it might relate to how the CPU manages tasks with its hyperthreaded threads and cores versus when idle. No need to worry or adjust anything.

Do you think this? It seems like the CPU might be throttling, but I haven’t noticed it yet. My performance has been okay so far.

A single core can reach up to 4.7GHz, but as more cores are engaged, the clock speed decreases depending on CPU temperature, available power, active cores, duration in boost mode, and instruction type such as AVX. Intel has compiled extensive data for processors to help determine optimal performance under various conditions. Modern games often utilize multiple cores, which means the number of active cores influences how the clock speed adjusts and distributes power across all cores rather than just a few. When not in use, the CPU usually operates with 1 or 2 cores for background tasks, reaching the full boost frequency only for those cores.

It should help maintain lower idle temperatures and manage load temps better. If you're comfortable doing so, reverting to Auto should keep performance stable without sacrificing too much speed.

At 16 threads the "Performance" setting in BIOS enabled PL, allowing all cores to operate at 4.7GHz. This level is likely too high for your setup.

When temps stay below 100°C and you're okay with the fan hum, extra performance is always beneficial. If a slight drop in FPS isn't a major issue and you can adjust the settings later, it's a good compromise.
