I’ve noticed extremely high temperatures in AIDA64, HWMonitor, and Core temp readings, reaching up to 100°C during the Prime 95 blend test. Even with a Hyper 212 EVO cooler, the chip remains at stock speeds. I’ve already re-seated it once and am using an artic mx 4 TIM. I’ve installed 212+ and 212 EVO multiple times. There’s also a Costa Rican 3770k in the same room with an EVO that never exceeded 80°C during Prime overclocked at 4.5ghz and 1.25vT. Did I receive a faulty chip?

It seems more likely that the issue stems from poor contact. Clean the thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and a qtip, then reapply using a BB-sized dot only. Avoid spreading it out. Place the heatsink flat without angling it. Tighten the screws gradually, checking as you go. Try again.

i'm using the same MSI GD65 Z87 i7 4770K with 4GB RAM at 1600 MHz and OC to 4.20 Prime95 temperatures around 100°C for two minutes and thirty seconds. The test stopped, but normal operation temps are between 59-65°C while gaming temps range from 70-90°C. I need a T2 for a cooler from Coolermaster T2.
