Hi everyone, I've been working as a network engineer for the last seven months and have finally managed to set up my home lab/media storage system. I currently have some Cisco gear from my college networking course and a few HP servers to experiment with—one of them is handling media streaming via Plex on Windows Server 2016. My goal is to upgrade to 10G/bit, so I'm looking into the best current deals for 10G NICs and a 4 or 8-port switch. I've tried Mellanox SFP+ cards with limited results and faced challenges using SFP connections over standard Ethernet. I prefer Ethernet for easy cabling around my house. The other option I found is the ASUS XG-C100C on Amazon for about £90 and a small 10G switch around £200. I'm also mindful of drive speed limits and have already factored that in. All the SSDs are accounted for. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Jimmy.
