Motherboard: MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI Cooler paired with Noctua D15 (dual 140mm fans) and a 14900K CPU, purchased in December 2023. I planned a detailed report on my CPU's performance issues and stress tests, but will now summarize key points and address specific concerns. The following outlines my experience running the CPU and board at fully stock configurations using Intel’s standard 253W power profile, except where specified otherwise. The Vcore remains set to Auto, adapting to the CPU’s needs. The oldest BIOS that supports 14th-gen CPUs can only maintain stability by capping P-core speeds at 5.6GHz; exceeding this risks immediate BSODs. Stock settings generally operate at 1.45V max, with typical voltages between 1.39–1.42V. The newest BIOS (0x129 microcode) also fails to run without crashes or errors under stock conditions, even at up to 5.7GHz. Voltages this high are unusual and raise safety concerns. A video mentioned that the lowest BIOS version is safest, with E-cores disabled for better stability. Key questions: 1. Are these default voltages safe? 2. Should I contact Intel for an RMA soon (outside return window) or wait until further testing on 0x129 and future updates? My worry is that if Intel releases a new CPU, faulty code could worsen performance or cause long-term damage.

The 1.44-1.48V range is quite reasonable for the 14900/K model. Before the 0x129 update, some users observed voltages reaching up to 1.60V. JaysTwoCents documented these changes and discovered spikes between 1.59 and 1.60V prior to the update, dropping to 1.55V after applying 0x129. While a 40-millivolt increase isn't enormous, it can significantly impact longevity—lasting a decade or more depends on consistent performance at these new levels. A stable 1.55V with 0x129 seems slightly too high for my taste, but we won’t have definitive answers until months or years of real-world use. At 1.50V and below, the risk is minimal, though confirming this requires extended operation under the updated voltage conditions.

You may want to review his testing. Remember, Intel is still refining the updates, and Jay received the initial BIOS fix among the earliest versions. This clip comes from just after the first 0x129 release.

Volts is different from amperes. If your power consumption didn't get higher it's not a problem. If you're concerned then tweak VID and LLC behaviour.
